Checking Your Roof After a Southwest Florida Storm
After a storm passes, it's tempting to climb up and look. Don't. Most of what you need to know can be seen from the ground and from inside.
Request a rooferFrom the ground
Look for missing shingles or tiles, lifted edges, damaged ridge caps and debris on the roof.

In the yard
Shingle pieces, tile fragments and flashing in the yard point to damage above.
Inside
Check ceilings, especially near exterior walls, for stains or drips over the next few days.
Attic
With a flashlight, look for wet insulation or daylight through the decking.
Lanai and gutters
Check screen enclosures, lanai roofs and gutters for damage.
Document
Take photos and video before cleanup.
Temporary protection
Get a tarp on if water is getting in.
Licensed help
Use a licensed Florida roofer, not a door-to-door crew.
