Bokeelia is a community of 1,855 people (2020) at the northern end of Pine Island, surrounded by water on three sides: Pine Island Sound, Charlotte Harbor and Matlacha Pass.

Pioneer families

Bokeelia is still home to the Padillas, one of Lee County's first pioneer families, who came by way of Cayo Costa. The original settlement is on Bokeelia Island, linked to Pine Island by a short bridge, with a short Main Street along Charlotte Harbor.
